MTS ALLSTREAM

In January we helped MTS Allstream celebrate their 100th year in the telecommunications industry with the production of a 30 minute documentary on the history of the company.

When we took on this project we had no idea what a wealth of materials we would find on the Internet as well as in the Manitoba Telephone System's archive! First telephones, switchboards, photographs, newsletters, films, and numerous videos provided the backdrop for the story of a company that has been a part of Manitoba for a hundred years.

The entire film is posted for viewing at MTS Allstream's web site and on MTS TV. If you want to see vintage footage, artifacts and re-creations of interviews with key historical figures, I recommend going to their web site to see this, and much more. You can also see the program on MTS TV.

COMMUNITY SAFETY NET

Community Safety Net works with communities across the United States and Canada to provide children with educational safety resources.

Fire Safety for Kids is an interactive DVD produced to go together with a full-color instructional book aimed at 6 - 11 year olds. An on-camera host, shot on a green screen, shows children potential fire hazards, teaches them how to prevent fires, think of an escape plan, and shows them what a fire fighter looks like when they are in full gear. The interactive DVD also contains a quiz at the end of the DVD that children can complete. Get all of the answers correct and you get a code to use on the company's web site for a chance to win a prize.

GIDAKIIMINAAN

Gidakiiminaan - an Anishinaabe word meaning our land, our earth.

The people of the Rainy River First Nations, who occupy the territory along the Rainy River in Northwestern Ontario, recognize that they have a finite land base which must be protected in order to sustain future generations.

Over several months; workshops, community meetings, one on one interviews, and facilitated staff discussions regarding setting sustainable policies in regards to future development within the community were filmed. From these discussions a video was produced for distribution to community to help them understand the concept of sustainable development and to communicate developmental policy; all future proposed development must include environmental protection for future generations, opportunity for economic growth, and healthy social development.
